1. Reasons for Weakened Adsorption Force
Degradation of Magnet Performance: Most stainless steel door stoppers rely on magnets for their adsorption function. Over long-term use, magnets can be affected by impacts, high temperatures, or natural aging, causing their magnetism to gradually weaken. For example, when a door slams forcefully against the door stopper upon closing, the magnetic domain structure inside the magnet may change, reducing its magnetism. Similarly, a high-temperature environment can disrupt the arrangement of magnetic materials in the magnet, further weakening its adsorption force.
Adsorption Surface Pollution: If the adsorption surface of the door stopper becomes contaminated with dust, oil, iron filings, or other impurities, an isolation layer forms between the door body and the door stopper, hindering the magnetic force. In daily use, dust on the ground easily adheres to the adsorption surface of the floor stopper. In environments with more oil, such as the kitchen, the oil can cover the adsorption surface, significantly reducing the adsorption force.
Loose Installation Parts: When installing the door stopper, if the screws or fixing glue become loose, the fit between the door stopper and the door body, wall, or floor deteriorates, resulting in the inability to effectively transmit the magnetic force. For instance, if the fixing screws of the floor stopper become loosened, the position of the floor stopper will shift, causing misalignment with the corresponding adsorption position of the door, thus affecting the adsorption effect.
Deformation of the Door Body: During the use of the door, it may deform due to moisture, external force impacts, or other reasons, leading to the door not fitting tightly with the door stopper after closing. This reduces the adsorption area and weakens the adsorption force. For example, a wooden door may expand and deform after being exposed to moisture, changing the distance between the door and the door frame, making it impossible for the door stopper to adsorb normally.
Door Stopper Specifications Do Not Match: If the selected door stopper specifications do not match the weight and size of the door, it can also result in insufficient adsorption force. Using door stops with too strong a magnetic force for lighter doors can cause large impact forces during frequent opening and closing, easily damaging the door stopper. Conversely, using door stops with weaker magnetic force for heavier doors cannot provide sufficient adsorption force to fix the door body.
2. Solutions
Replace the Magnet or Door Stopper: If it is determined that the magnet performance has declined and the adsorption force has weakened, for door stoppers with detachable magnets, you can purchase a strong magnet of the same specification for replacement. If the door stopper is seriously aged overall, it is recommended to replace it with a new stainless steel door stopper. When purchasing a new door stopper, choose a product with reliable quality and stable magnetism.
Clean the Adsorption Surface: Regularly clean the adsorption surface of the door stopper by wiping it with a clean, soft cloth to remove dust, oil, and other impurities. For stubborn stains, you can dip a small amount of alcohol or neutral detergent and wipe gently, then rinse with clean water and wipe dry to ensure the adsorption surface is clean and restore the magnetic effect.
Tighten the Installation Parts: Check whether the installation screws of the door stopper are loose. If they are, tighten them with a screwdriver. For door stoppers installed with fixed glue, if they become loose, you can reapply strong glue to fix them. During installation, ensure that the door stopper is accurately positioned and fits tightly with the door body, wall, or floor.
Repair or Replace the Door Body: If the adsorption force is weakened due to deformation of the door body, for slightly deformed wooden doors, it can be repaired by adjusting the hinges, re-polishing, etc. If the deformation is severe, a new door needs to be replaced. At the same time, pay attention to keeping the environment where the door is located dry to prevent the door from becoming damp and deformed again.
Choose a Door Stopper of Appropriate Specifications: According to the actual weight and size of the door, choose a stainless steel door stopper of matching specifications. Generally speaking, for lighter interior wooden doors, small door catches with moderate magnetic force can be used. For heavier security doors and solid wooden doors, large door catches with strong magnetic force should be selected to ensure that the door catches can provide sufficient adsorption force to fix the door body.
